Investment in non-residential building construction in B.C. decreased a moderate 3.5% (seasonally adjusted) in the fourth quarter of 2016. Spending on new buildings declined in the industrial (-6.0%), commercial (-4.3%) and institutional (-0.3%) sectors. Non-residential building construction activity continued to ease in Vancouver (-7.5%), slipping to $864 million. Abbotsford-Mission (-1.3% to $31 million) and Kelowna (-1.1% to $93 million) also posted declines, but investment in Victoria strengthened (+4.6% to $103 million).
